The
2008 Dancing With Lights Christmas display was a huge success. The 2008
Display had over 25000 Lights and drew nearly 110 Amps of power during it peak.
Just the parkway tree had an amazing 8000 lights on it. This almost
matched the amount of lights we had from last year. A 10 Foot Mega Tree
with three colors and a rotating star was added in the display that had over
4500 lights. Three new songs we added along with Voice Over done by the
Demented Elf, this added a nice
radio station feel to the display and added some humor.
Though
we didn't get as much media coverage as we did in 2007, we did have a lot of
visitors. The furthest visitor that I am aware of was from Van Nays.
(If you came further, please send me an
email.)
We had visitors from a Christian Family Rest Home, and a 25 foot tractor pulling
about 30 to 40 people where some of the highlights. This year, we started
passing out Candy Canes for a couple of days this year. We passed out
nearly 45 boxes (540 Candy Canes) to people that visited the display.
People have asked about leaving donations. For the
people that asked, I directed them to send there donations to my family Church
which is:
Community Grace Brethren Church,
which is located at
11000 E. Washington Blvd, Whittier Ca 90607. Just
mark your donation as Dancing With Lights 2008. If you're looking for a
Church Home, this is a great place where you'll get treated like family.
Another
question I get asked is: How much did this cost in electricity?
Well, on January 2nd, we received our electric bill from Edison Company, which
covered December 1 thru the 30th. Which is the majority of the time the
display was up. The difference between the November bill and the December
bill was a positive $100.00. Like I have been telling people, it isn't
much to actually run the display. The majority of the cost goes into
design.
Songs this year, took any where between 2 to 3 hours per
minute of song to chorographic and program the lights. The Steven Curtis
Chapman song took nearly 25 hours to complete it self, due to the complexity of
the song.
A lot of work throughout 2008 really paid off. I spend
nearly 8 to 9 month planning and designing the 2008 display and it really paid
off. All in all, an awesome year.
