Power has many meanings, but the end result are usually the same. If used correctly, it can be used to direct people and nations or create beautiful things with imagination as the only limitation. But, if missed-used it can kill and create destruction. So one must use power wisely and safely in all aspects of life. -- E. Faranda II
Power is what brings the show to life. But, distributing the power safely and correctly is very important. The 2007 show pulled approximately 9000 watts of power. That is like running 9 - 1000 watt air dryers, or 90 - 100 Watt light bulbs. If you’re the “GREEN” type person that runs the fluorescent bulbs in your house (like I do), about 390 of those. I think you get the idea; it is a lot of power. But, all of this power isn’t drawn constantly by the display. In fact, on average I am using less than ½ of the power at any given time. Everything isn’t on all at once, and sometimes things are fading, shimmering, or on at ½ brightness. All of which, gives mood to the music and display. Below is an example of power consumption for a song. A chart is created for each song.
In 2008, a much bigger display is planned. How big, I have yet to determine. I have a good idea physically how big it is going to be. But, I haven’t been able to calculate the power usage. So planning for power distribution is difficult. But, I am creating a portable Sub-Control Panel that is capable of handling more than 17000 watts and that can be easily expanded to handle more if required.
